The Rehabilitation Specialists

The Rehabilitation Specialists

The Rehabilitation Specialists (TRS) are an NDIS registered provider and a workplace rehabilitation provider. A specific area of expertise for our team is our work with individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. We have a team of Deaf Aware Occupational Therapists, some of whom know Auslan (Australian Sign Language) and/or are Deaf or Hard of Hearing themselves. We have knowledge and experience about Deaf community and culture, needs for Hard of Hearing individuals, and of those who may have lost their hearing later in life. We understand support needs including communication, assistive technology, building functional capacity and increasing engagement and participation.

The Rehabilitation Specialists was founded by Fiona Fonti in 2012. Being profoundly deaf herself, Fiona is passionate about achieving positive outcomes for all our clients. We love working with other service who also provide support to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

Our team is committed to supporting and empowering our participants to achieve their goals though provision of Occupational Therapy and Exercise Physiology therapeutic supports (assessment, reports and intervention services). We are passionate about ensuring a person-centered approach and work collaboratively with participants, their families and their support teams to tailor our supports based on participant choices. Let us know if Auslan is your preferred language, and whether you prefer SMS or email communication. We can also provide Auslan videos of our documentation.

  • We provide a flexible approach to service provision to meet participants’ needs at home, in the community, and in clinics
  • Face-to-face occupational therapy support is available in Canberra, Sydney, and regional areas, with the convenience of Telehealth nationwide
  • Exercise physiologists operate from Canberra, providing services at our onsite gyms, at participants’ homes or in the community

A Polynesian woman is signing while communicating through video chat from her tablet.
A Polynesian right hand is holding a black smartphone device. On the screen, there is a visible Auslan interpreter. The interpreter is a Caucasian woman with short blonde hair, wearing a black headset and a black shirt. She has tattoos on both arms and is smiling in front of a grey background. At the lower right corner of the screen, there is a small image of a Polynesian woman with long black hair, wearing a mustard-coloured jumper. She is also holding the smartphone in her right hand.
